Bishop McCort jumped out to a big early lead, then watched the lead disappear before coming back to defeat Richland 38-34 at Herlinger Field. The Crushers scored on their first three possessions to take a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.
Eric Lowry first scored on a 23-yard touchdown run, and then caught touchdown passes of 16 and 43 yards from senior quarterback, Jack Schrey to give the Crushers their big early lead. Richland answered with under a minute left in the first quarter when Gino Ramires hit Tim Ripple, who lateraled to Chad Miller, for a 32-yard touchdown. After a Dane Domonkos field goal gave McCort a 24-3 lead, the Rams went on to score 27 straight points to take a 34-24 lead late in the third quarter. Ramires connected with Ripple for touchdowns of 61 and 17 yards, found Ryan Sylvia for a 9-yard touchdown, and ran 26 yards for another touchdown. The Crushers began a comeback of their own when Isa Wadley scored on a 15-yard touchdown run with just over a minute left in the third quarter. The McCort defense stepped up throughout the final quarter, as Lowry came up with key interception to prevent a Richland score. After Derek Leventry recovered a Richland fumble late in the fourth quarter, Lowry scored his fourth touchdown of the night with an 8-yard run to put McCort back up 38-34. Josh Seidel's interception on Richland's final drive sealed the victory for the Crushers.
