CRUSHERS FALL TO RICHLAND ON THE ROAD

The Bishop McCort defense needed one more big play Friday night, but it came up short as the Richland Rams drove the 67 yards in the final minute to score the game-winning touchdown with just 11 seconds left as the Rams beat the Crushers 17-10.

Bishop McCort's defense recorded five turnovers on the night and had kept the high-powered Richland offense in check throughout the game. Despite being outgained in total yardage 334-178, the Crusher defense kept the team in the game by forcing turnovers in crucial spots.

Senior quarterback Zaine Tomkowski took advantage of the final turnover and drove his team 57 yards in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. With just over a minute remaining, Tomkowski scored from a yard out to tie the game 10-10 before the Rams answered with the winning drive.

Bishop McCort's offense struggled to find its rhythm throughout the game. The running game was held to just 33 yards on 27 carries, and Tomkowski just 12 of his 28 passes. Despite the offensive struggles, the Crushers stayed in the game thanks to a tremendous effort from their defense.

Richland entered the game averaging over 44 points per game and hadn't scored less than 35 in a game all season while compiling a 4-0 record. The Rams offense was unable to score with such frequency on the Crushers, but Richland star Tanner Solarczyk was able to do enough damage on the ground to secure the win.

Solarczyk finished 157 yards on 21 carries and scored both Richland touchdowns. On the decisive drive, Solarczyk accounted for 40 of the Rams 57 Rams. His game-winning touchdown was the first 4th quarter points the Crushers had allowed all season.

Bishop McCort took the initial lead in the second quarter on senior Jordan Spangler's 38-yard field goal. The Crushers would hold the 3-0 lead until the third quarter when the Rams added a field goal of their own to tie the score. Solarczyk scored his first touchdown at the end of the third quarter to give the Rams a 10-3 lead that they would hold until Tomkowski's tying touchdown in the final minute.
