Central Cambria used a pair of late scores to break open a tie game and defeat Bishop McCort 33-21 Saturday night at Point Stadium.
The Crushers tied that game 21-21 midway through the third quarter when sophomore quarterback
Levi Cook took the snap and sprinted 32 yards for a touchdown.
The Red Devils answered on the following drive as Will Seymour found Tim Davis for a 17-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion failed, and Central Cambria clung to a 27-21 lead heading into the final quarter.
Bishop McCort looked poised to take the lead early in the final quarter as they drove deep into Red Devil territory. But Cook was stopped short on fourth down inside the Central Cambria's 20-yard line, and the Red Devils took over possession of the ball.
Seymour led Central Cambria 81 yards on eight plays, and sealed the game with a 10-yard touchdown run with just over two minutes left. Another failed two-point conversion set the final score at 33-21.
To begin the game, the Red Devils jumped out to an early lead scoring 14 first quarter points. After the Crushers lost a fumble on the opening possession, it took Seymour just six plays to find the endzone with a 29-yard pass to Tyler Adams. After forcing Bishop McCort to punt on the next possession, Seymour again led his team on an impressive scoring drive marching 63 yards in 12 plays culminating in a 9-yard scoring strike to Davis.
The Crushers fought back early in the second quarter. Bishop McCort's offense needed just three plays to score their first points of the game. Cook found senior receiver
Corey Hall for a 29-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 14-7.
The Red Devils began the next possession in Crusher territory thanks to long kickoff return, and Seymour capitalized quickly as he needed just three plays before scoring from three yards out to make it 21-7.
The Crusher defense made a big play just before halftime to swing the momentum and cut into the lead. Central Cambria faced a third down inside Crusher territory with just over a minute left in the half as they attempted to increase their lead. As Seymour dropped back to pass, he was hit and fumbled. Anthony Walters scooped up the loose ball and sprinted 45 yards for a Crusher touchdown to close the gap to 21-14 at halftime.
The Crushers carried the momentum over into the second half as they intercepted Seymour on the opening possession before Cook's touchdown tied the game.
Cook led the offense with 163 yards on 16 carries with a rushing and passing touchdown. The Crushers also outgained the Red Devils on the ground piling up 223 yards rushing as a team.
Bishop McCort will conclude the season this Friday night as they travel to Cresson to face the Penn Cambria Panthers.
