Bishop McCort jumped out to an early lead but was unable to match Richland's high-powered offense as the Rams ran away with a 42-7 victory Friday night.The Crushers got on the scoreboard first when sophomore quarterback Levi Cook found senior Corey Hall for a 15-yard scoring strike midway through the first quar- ter to make it 7-0. Senior running back Marc Smith set up the score with a big 25- yard run.
Bishop McCort looked poised to add to the early lead after forcing a Richland three -and-out on the Rams opening possession. But, Richland came up with a big turn- over that changed the momentum of the game.
Richland's Jonny Kutchman picked off a Cook pass and returning it 47 yards to theCrusher 25 yardline. Kutchman then scored on an 8-yard run to cut the Crusher lead to 7-6.
The Bishop McCort offense stalled on the next possession, and the Rams answered with an 84-yard scoring drive to take a 14-7 lead. The Crusher offense was unable to respond, and Richland added to the lead with just six seconds left in the half as Kutchman fired a 22-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-7 at the intermission.
The Crushers offensive struggles continued in the second half as the offense failed to find the endzone and committed numerous turnovers. For the night, Bishop McCort fumbled four times, losing two of them.
The Rams added three more scores in the second half as they dominated the time of possession. Kutchman sealed the win with another touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter to set the final score at 42-7.
The Crushers will return home Saturday night as they will host Bedford at Point Stadium.The Last Time 09.20.13- Bedford 49, Bishop McCort 0:The Bishop McCort Crushers dropped their fourth straight game last Friday night in Bedford falling to the Bison 49-0.
Bedford took the opening kickoff and marched 67 yards for a touchdown. The Bison then capitalized on a pair of McCort turnovers to extend the first-quarter lead. Two Crusher fumbles gave Bedford excellent field position that the Bison turned into two touchdowns. After a Bishop McCort punt, Bedford's Kody Blevins added a 12-yard rushing touchdown to give the Bison a 28-0 lead at the end of the opening quarter.
Bedford piled up 219 total yards in the opening quarter while holding the Crush- ers to just 29 yards and two turnovers. Bison quarterback Austin Montgomery led the Bedford offense down the field again in the beginning of the second quarter and found Zach Shaffer from 11 yards out to increase the lead to 35-0.
The teams traded punts throughout the third quarter until Bedford added the final score of the game late in the quarter. August Cook added a 20-yard rushing touchdown to set the final score at 49-0.
For the game, Bedford outgained Bishop McCort in total offensive yards 443-65.
Marc Smith was the Crushers leading rusher with 23 yards on 10 carries. Senior
Luke DiFrancesco led the Crushers in all-purpose yards with 172 yards for the game.
