Crushers Defeat Hilltoppers:
1403Bishop McCort jumped out to an early lead and held on during a tightly contested game to defeat Westmont Hilltop 26-14 at Westmont's Price Field.

The Crushers began the scoring late in the opening quarter when quarterback Levi Cook found senior wideout Corey Hall for a 34-yard scoring strike. A missed extra point left McCort with a 6-0 lead.

On the ensuing possession, the Hilltoppers fumbled, and senior Marc Smith scooped up the loose ball and returned it 23 yards for another Crusher touchdown to increase the lead to 12-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Westmont was able to close the gap with an impressive 99-yard drive midway through the second quarter that ended with an Evan Dluhos 24-yard touchdown run. The Crushers ran out of time inside the Hilltopper 5-yardline as the first half ended with a 12-7 McCort lead.

The Crusher offense began the second half with a methodical 13-play 80 yard drive that ended with freshman Carnell Andrews' 1-yard touchdown run. The extra point set the score at 19-7.

The Hilltoppers made one last comeback attempt as Chase Davis scored from a yard out to make it 19-14. After forcing a Crusher punt with just over three minutes left in the game, Westmont took over inside their own 10-yardline.

But McCort's defense came up big forcing a fumble on the Hilltoppers' first play, and Cook sealed the win with a 9-yard touchdown run on the next play to give the Crushers the 26-14 win.

With Smith, the team's leading rusher, limited by a knee injury, Cook led the Crusher attack on the day. He threw for 203 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 69 yards and another score. Hall led the receivers with 8 catches for 167 yards and a touchdown.

For the game, McCort gained 360 yards of total offense, outgaining the Hilltoppers by almost 100 yards.

The win improves the Crushers' record to 2-2 on the season as they head to Richland to face off against the Rams Friday night.

The Last Time 09.27.13— Richland 70, Bishop McCort 21:
Despite jumping out to an early lead, Bishop McCort was unable to keep up with Richland's explosive offense as the Crushers fell to the Rams 70-21 last Friday night.

On the second play from scrimmage, sophomore quarterback Blake Wade found wideout Jake Burgo with a strike for a 59-yard touchdown pass to put the Crushers ahead 7-0.

1404Richland answer right back with Tanner Solarczyk first touchdown of the night, and the two-point conversation gave Richland an 8-7 lead. Bishop McCort would have trouble with Solarczyk all night as the star running back finished the game with 128 yards on just 15 carries with four touchdowns.

After forcing a Crusher punt, Solarczyk added his second score to increase the Richland lead to 15-7. The Rams added to their lead just before the end of the opening quarter when Richland quarterback Matt Shaffer found Kyle Flick for a 14 yard touchdown pass.

The Crushers responded early in the second quarter when Wade found senior Nemo Trexler for his second touchdown pass of the game closing the gap to 22-14. The Crushers looked to be gaining momentum as Burgo picked off a Shaffer pass giving McCort excellent field position to tie the game. But, the Crusher offense stalled, and the Rams took over.

Solarczyk wasted little time increasing the Richland lead as he led the Ram offense down the field and scored from five yards out to put Richland up 29-14. The Rams added another touchdown just before the half to give them a comfortable halftime lead. Flick returned a Crusher punt 51 yards to the McCort 13-yardline, and Solarczyk took the very next snap into the endzone to set the halftime score at 36-14.

The Rams continued to add to their lead in the second half. Shaffer found Flick for another touchdown on the opening drive. When the Crushers fumbled the ensuing kickoff, Shaffer wasted no time in adding a rushing touchdown of his own. Richland's Jake Urban intercepted freshman quarterback Levi Cook's pass on the next McCort possession and returned it 33 yards for another touchdown giving the Rams a 57-14 lead midway through the third quarter.

The Crushers finally answer as Cook led the offense on an impressive scoring drive on the next possession. Cook found senior Luke DiFrancesco for a 36-yard game to start the drive. A pair of Cook rushes got McCort into scoring position, and Cook finished the drive with a 16-yard touchdown run to make it 57-21.

Solarczyk and Shaffer answer right back leading the Rams down the field until Shaffer found Nick Naglic for a 22-yard touchdown reception. Richland added a touchdown in the fourth quarter to set the final score at 70-21.

Cook led the Crusher offense with 33 yards on just 6 carries while Trexler and DiFrancesco each had 3 catches.
