Girls Cross Country Beats Penn Cambria 24-35

The McCort cross country team opened their LHAC regular season schedule in winning fashion at Penn Cambria today.
Sophomore Jake Schulte won the boys race outright in 17:30 for 5000 meters. With Noah Huffman only a few seconds back in third place, plus top 10 finishes from Joe Nemchik, Nick Kasisky and Marc Eckenrod, the Crushers swept Penn Cambria 22-33 and Bishop Carroll 21-37.
Even with one senior sidelined by injury, the girls team showed the strength of their pack. Freshman Lauren Weaver's 2nd place finish in 23:24 led seven Lady Crushers (Erica Weaver, Michalina Templin, Abby Szelong, Aunna Yingling, Jessica Schulte, Jillian Shroyer) into the top 10 and a 24-35 victory over the host Panthers. Bishop Carroll also competed but didnt field a full team.
In the middle school races, Addison King (CCA 8th) and Aidan Layton (St. Andrew 7th) led the way with second place finishes in their 2 mile races.
The team faces a strong early season challenge next Wednesday, taking on perennial powerhouse Central Cambria in Ebensburg.
