Game Recap: Football |

Bishop McCort 43, Cambria Heights 6

Bishop McCort rolled to a 43-6 win over Cambria Heights on Friday. The Crushers moved to 2-0 for the first time since the 2012 season. Anthony Walters paced the offense with four touchdowns, while the defense combined for a great team effort and held Cambria Heights to under 100 total yards.

The game started slow for both sides with each teams trading punts. It was on the second possession of the game where McCort started to assert it's dominance. McCort orchestrated a 7 play 42 yard drive that resulted in a Levi Cook 6 yard touchdown pass to Anthony Walters. Chris Miller booted the extra point to set the score at 7-0. On the ensuing kickoff Ridge Phillips forced a fumble while Andre Nash recovered the loose ball. On the very first play of the drive,  Cook found Anthony Formica in the back of the end zone from 15 yards out to tack on another score. Cook ran in for a two point conversion to make it 15-0.

The opportunistic Crushers struck again as Andre Nash made an acrobatic interception to halt the Highlanders next drive. The teams traded possessions to close out the first quarter, but McCort was on the move to start the second. Anthony Walters plunged in from one yard out to extend the lead to 22-0.

Cambria Heights managed to get on the scoreboard on a trick play. The Highlanders pitched the ball to wide receiver Michael Patrick and he found quarterback James Baum streaking down the sideline for a 53 yard score. Ridge Phillips blocked Heights' extra point attempt, and it was all McCort from there.

With some momentum from the home team, McCort executed a quick 5 play 65 yard drive to answer capped off with an Anthony Walters 38 yard touchdown to make it 29-6. McCort struck quickly again after an Imil Britt interception. Cook called his own number from 8 yards out to make it 36-6, and that score held through halftime.

In the opening drive of the second half, the Crushers' defense forced a turnover with Zach Goins recovering the fumble. McCort promptly tacked on another touchdown with Cook finding Walters for a 43 yard score to make it 43-6, and that set the running clock in motion.

Anthony Walters finished the day with 91 rushing yards and 80 receiving yards to go with the four touchdowns. Cook was an efficient 8-11 for 147 yards and three touchdowns through the air, with one on the ground as well. The defense was paced by an 11 tackle performance by Ridge Phillips
