Tom Smith ('89)

Tom Smith (’89) has been named Head football coach at Bishop McCort. 

Smith has experience coaching both football and wrestling. Most recently, he was an assistant football coach at Johnstown High School.

As a student-athlete at Bishop McCort, Smith was a three-year letter winner in football. He ranks second in school history for most tackles in a single season with 148, set in 1988. That year, he was selected first-team all-state as a defensive lineman by the Associated Press.

Smith went on to play football at St. Francis University under head coach Frank Pergolizzi. In 1992, he helped lead the Red Flash to the ECAC Southeast Championship game with an 8-2-1 record. Smith is currently the school’s all-time sack leader.

Tom was named principal of Bishop McCort Catholic High School on July 1, 2019. Tom and his wife, Sherry, reside in Westmont. They have two daughters, Keyli, a sophomore cheerleader at The Ohio State University and Mikayla, a senior cheerleader at Bishop McCort.
