Somerset scored early and often as the Golden Eagles sent the Bishop McCort Crushers to their third straight loss 54-14 in Somerset Friday night.
The Golden Eagles wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. After forcing a Crusher punt on the game's opening possession, Somerset's Jake Heiple took a handoff on first down and ran 36 yards for a touchdown to make it 7-0.

After forcing a second Bishop McCort punt, Somerset needed just three plays before Heiple scored his second touchdown of the game on a 51-yard run. The Crushers were stopped on downs on the next possession, and Heiple added his third touchdown of the first quarter on a 12-yard dash to make it 21-0.
Bishop McCort finally answered on the ensuing drive as sophomore
Levi Cook burst through the line for an impressive 80-yard touchdown run to close the gap to 21-7 at the end of the opening quarter.
However, the Golden Eagles were just too much on this night as Somerset scored 27 straight points in the second quarter to give Somerset a commanding 48-7 halftime lead. First, Dylan Barnes found Raven Beeman for a 54-yard scoring strike. Then, Barnes found Logan Eller on a two-yard touchdown pass. Heiple added a fourth touchdown with a 44-yard scamper. And the Golden Eagles closed the half by picking off a Cook pass and returning it 37 yards for another touchdown.
Cook added another touchdown for the Crushers midway through the fourth quarter on a four-yard run. Somerset added the final touchdown on Zac Laue's one-yard plunge to set the final score at 54-14.
The Crushers were able to rush for 209 yards for the game, but Somerset racked up over 400 yards rushing on the night. Cook led McCort's attack with 94 yards on six carries while senior
Marc Smith added 62 yards on 15 carries.
The Crushers will host Bishop Guilfoyle for Senior Night on Saturday at Point Stadium.
