Special Event - Ovarian Cancer Awareness:
1328
The varsity football team will wear teal socks tonight
to help raise awareness for ovarian cancer

Bishop McCort recognizes September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

Bishop McCort Catholic High School has partnered with the Laurel Auto Group in their dedication to fighting Ovarian Cancer. Throughout the month of September we will hold various activities to spread awareness about this deadly disease. Awareness of symptoms is critical for early detection. Fewer than 20 percent of ovarian cancer patients are diagnosed early. THERE IS NO RELIABLE SCREENING TEST TO DETECT OVARIAN CANCER.

We can "BEAT" this disease by recognizing the signs...

Bloating that is persistent
Eating less and feeling fuller
Abdominal pain
Trouble with your bladder

If any symptoms continue for 2-3 weeks, pleasetell your doctor!

Crusher Defeat Highlanders on the Road:
1325Bishop McCort used a big second quarter to take a lead over Cambria Heights and held on for a 22-14 victory in Patton Friday night.
The Crushers scored all 22 of their points in an 8-minute span just before halftime on their way to their first victory of the season.

The Highlanders took the early lead late in the opening quarter when quarterback Eddie Link found James Baum for a 36-yard touchdown pass.
Bishop McCort answered right back early in the second quarter when Crusher quarterback Levi Cook hit senior wideout Corey Hall for a 32-yard scoring strike. The Crushers took an 8-7 lead on the extra point attempt when Zef Leech took a bad snap and ran it in for the conversion.

The Crusher defense stopped Cambria Heights on the next possession, and the offense added another quick score. Freshman Carnell Andrews led the attack on the drive with a 35-yard reception followed by a 10-yard touchdown run to put Bishop McCort ahead 15-7.

Bishop McCort ended the scoring just before halftime when senior running back Marc Smith burst through the line for a 44-yard gain down to the 1-yardline, and Cook followed with a quarterback keeper for the touchdown giving the Crushers a 22-7 lead at the break.

Both teams' defenses turned in strong second halves as the Crushers and Highlanders traded punts throughout the third quarter. Cambria Heights added a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to close the gap to 22-14, but the Crusher defense held forcing a turnover on downs and an interception on the Highlanders final two drive to seal the win.

Smith led the Crusher attack for the night with 126 yards on 15 carries. Cook added 83 yards passing to go along with a passing and rushing touchdown. Andrews finished with 113 yards combined rushing, receiving, and returning.

With a 1-1 record on the season, the Crushers will host the Greater Johnstown Trojans Saturday night at Point Stadium.

The Last Time 10.11.13— Johnstown 41, Bishop McCort 31:
1326Bishop McCort held a 28-14 third quarter lead over Johnstown, but the Trojans used a furious fourth quarter rally to get a comeback win 41-31 over the Crushers.
Bishop McCort got off to a hot start taking the opening possession 60 yards and taking a 7-0 lead on senior Tyler Rugg's two-yard touchdown run. The Crusher defense forced a Johnstown fumble on the next possession, and McCort wasted little time adding to the lead as Rugg scored again from two yards out to make it 14-0.

The Trojans answer with a 70-yard touchdown drive of their own, scoring when quarterback Jeremy Updyke found Kevin Brandon for a 28-yard scoring strike. After forcing the Crushers to punt on the next possession, Johnstown tied the game when Updyke connected with Kareem Gibson for a three-yard touchdown pass.

The Crushers came roaring back to retake the lead almost immediately. On the first play from scrimmage on the next possession, Rugg burst through the line for a 63-yard gain down to the Trojan 10 yard line. Three plays later, quarterback Blake Wade threw a touchdown pass to Jake Burgo to put the Crushers ahead 21-14.

The Bishop McCort defense held the Trojans on fourth down inside the Crusher 10 yard line on the next possession to give McCort the seven point halftime lead.
The Crushers were also able to score first in the second half. Wade found senior Luke DiFrancesco for a 17 yard gain deep in Trojan territory, then found senior Nemo Trexler for a 17-yard touchdown pass on the next play to make it 28-14. Updyke led the Trojans right back down the field engineering a 66-yard touchdown drive culminating in a 13-yard touchdown pass to Willie Robinson to close the gap to 28-21.

The Crushers put together a long drive inside the Trojan five-yard line to end the third quarter. But, McCort was stopped on third down and had to settle for a Braden Junker field goal on the first play on the final quarter to increase the lead to 31-21.

However, the Crusher defense had no answer for Updyke and the Trojan offense in the fourth quarter. Updyke began the quarter by leading Johnstown on an 80-yard touchdown drive that he ended by rushing into the endzone from a yard out to make it 31-28.

The Trojan defense finally made a play intercepting a Wade pass at the Crusher 20-yard line, and Johnstown quickly capitalized with a Jayvon Braxton touchdown run to take  a 34-31 lead.

The Crushers attempted a comeback of their own on the next possession but were held on fourth down. Again, Johnstown capitalized putting the finishing touches on their come-from-behind win when Braxton added another touchdown run to set the final score at 41-31.

Rugg led the Crusher offense with 149 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries while DiFrancesco added 55 rushing yards on 11 carries. DiFrancesco finished the game with 150 all-purpose yards. Wade complete 8-11 passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns, and Burgo was his top target catching four passes for 43 yards and a touchdown.
