CRUSHERS FALL TO RANGERS IN HOME OPENER:
The Bishop McCort Crimson Crushers opened the 2014 season hosting the Forest Hills Rangers last Saturday night, and the Rangers used a strong first half to defeat the Crushers 35-0.
The two squads traded possessions throughout the first quarter until Ranger tailback Shareef Blough burst through the line for a 14-yard touchdown run to open the scoring and give Forest Hills a 7-0 lead. Blough led the attack for the Rangers, finishing the night with 8 carries for 131 yards and two touchdowns.
The Rangers increased their lead throughout the second quarter as the Crushers gave up a trio of big plays the led to Ranger touchdowns.
After a Crusher interception, Ranger quarterback Joe Donoughe sprinted around the edge for a 65-yard touchdown run. After the next McCort drive stalled, Blough took the handoff and rushed for an 80-yard touchdown. Then just before halftime, Donoughe picked off another McCort pass and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown that put the Rangers up 28-0.
The Crusher defense held strong in the second half as they keep the Ranger offense out of the endzone, but Donoughe added a second interception, returning this one 74 yards for a touchdown to set the final score at 35-0.
For the game, Bishop McCort had more first downs than Forest Hills (13-10) and more passing yards (75-52), but the Crushers could not overcome the big plays made by the Rangers.

THE LAST TIME (10.18.13)- BISHOP McCORT 15, CAMBRIA HEIGHTS 6:Using a stingy defense and some powerful running by senior
Tyler Rugg, Bishop McCort defeated Cambria Heights 15-6 Friday night at Point Stadium.
The Crushers wasted little time in taking the lead. After receiving the opening kickoff, freshman
Levi Cook led Bishop McCort on a quick three-play scoring drive. Cook found senior
Luke DiFrancesco for a 46-yard gain to the Cambria Heights 20-yard line on the second play from scrimmage. Rugg scored his first touchdown of the night on the next play, and a successful two-point conversion gave the Crushers an 8-0 lead.

The Highlanders tried to respond on the ensuing possession, but the Crusher defense sacked Cambria Heights quarter back Eddie Link on fourth down to end the threat. The teams traded punts throughout the remainder of the opening quarter as Bishop McCort held on to the lead.
Both defenses made big plays in the second quarter to keep the game tight. The Highlanders were able to come up with an interception to halt a promising Crusher drive. But DiFrancesco came up with an interception of his own to stop the Highlanders' next possession. As the defenses held strong the first half ended with the Crushers still leading 8-0.
The action picked up immediately after halftime as the Highlanders' James Baum returned the second half kicked 91 yards for a touchdown. The Crusher defense stopped the two-point try, and McCort led 8-6.
The teams traded long possessions in the third quarter, but neither side was able to put points on the scoreboard. However, the Crushers were able to begin the fourth quarter with a 15-play touchdown drive that chewed up over six minutes on the game clock and gave them the lead they needed for the defense to finish the game.
The scoring drive was highlighted by two first-down passes from Cook to DiFrancesco and a 21-yard completion from Cook to senior
Dan Formica that put the ball inside the Highlander three-yard line. Rugg capped the drive with his second touchdown of the night, and the extra point gave the Crushers a 15-6 lead.
The defense stopped one more Highlander drive, and the Crushers earned their second win of the season. For the game, the Bishop McCort defense gave up just 206 total yards, and no points were scored against the Crusher defense.
Rugg led the offense with 110 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. DiFrancesco led the receivers with 6 catches for 117 yards, and he now has 996 all-purpose yards for the season. Cook completed 9 of 16 passes for 149 yards while sophomore quarterback
Blake Wade added four completions on five attempts for 47 yards.
