Westmont defeated Bishop McCort 30-24 in overtime last Friday night in front of a "Teal Out" crowd at the Point Stadium. The loss dropped McCort to 1-3 on the season, while Westmont moved to 3-1. The game proved to be a back and forth affair with Westmont putting together a late surge in regulation, and carrying that momentum into overtime to secure the victory.

Bishop McCort got the scoring going first with an eight play 40 yard drive that ended with a 37 yard Shane Steele field goal to give the Crushers a 3-0 lead. Westmont then took the ball and set the tone with a long and drawn out possession that covered 76 yards on 21 plays to take the 7-3 lead on an Evan Dluhos 10 yard touchdown run.

The Crushers answered quickly with a 72 yard drive of their own, capped off by a 27 yard touchdown pass from Levi Cook to Anthony Walters to give the lead back to McCort by a score of 10-7. The score would stay the same at intermission as Westmont failed to make a field goal attempt just before halftime.

Bishop McCort opened the second half with a splash. The Crushers cruised down the field 80 yards on 7 plays. Levi Cook dashed through the Westmont defense from 34 yards away to extend the McCort lead to 17-7 with 9:50 left to go in the third quarter.  Once again, Westmont answered with a long drive that burned big chunks of time off the game clock. Kyler Pyshnik eventually found the end zone to bring the Hilltoppers within three points at 17-14.

McCort opened the fourth quarter already threatening with yet another quick drive. Carnell Andrews sprinted to the end zone from 25 yards out to make it a two score game at 24-14, but it was the last points the Crushers would muster in this contest. The Hilltoppers brought the game to within three points on Evan Dluhos' second touchdown of the game. Westmont recovered the ensuing onside kick attempt, which ultimately led to a Mitch Causer field goal to tie the game at 24 all.

The late moments of regulation proved to be exciting, but neither team could mount a score, which eventually led to the extra frame.  McCort started with the ball first on offense, but began their drive from the 25 yard line due to a penalty at the end of regulation. McCort managed to get the ball to the one yard line, but they were stuffed short on fourth down. Westmont subsequently drove right into the end zone in two plays to set the final score at 30-24.

Bishop McCort will host Richland Friday night at the Point Stadium for the school's annual homecoming game.
