Game Recap: Football |

Bishop McCort 42, Bedford 0

Bishop McCort used a balanced offensive attack and suffocating defense to defeat Bedford 42-0 last Friday. The Crimson Crushers improved to 4-1 on the year with the win. Bishop McCort is off to their best start through five games since 2011, matching their 4-1 record.

The scoring got under way early for the host team. Bishop McCort faced a fourth and one from near midfield, when senior Quarterback Levi Cook faked out the entire defense and kept the ball himself on the option play. Cook strolled in from 46 yards out and Chris Miller's extra point gave the Crushers a quick 7-0 lead. That lead held through the first frame.

McCort got to work quickly in the second quarter. Two big completions from Cook to Elijah Benton and Chris Miller set up an Anthony Walters 24 yard touchdown run to increase the lead to 14-0. After a Bedford punt, McCort once again turned to the passing game as Cook found a leaping Andre Nash across the middle and he took it in for another touchdown. That play set the halftime score giving McCort a 21-0 edge over the Bisons.

Bedford opened the second half with the ball, but McCort's defense forced them to punt. The Crushers then executed a 12 play 80 yard drive that took off nearly 6 minutes of game clock. Anthony Walters capped the possession with a one yard score. The Crushers closed out the third quarter with another touchdown, as Kristian Fleming scooted in for 23 yards out to make it 35-0 at the end of three quarters.

The fourth quarter was played with a running clock, but it opened with a big play. The McCort defense forced a three and out for the Bisons and junior Carnell Andrews found the sideline on the punt return and took it to the house for a 57 yard score to set the final score at 42-0.

The Bishop McCort offense was led by Levi Cook, who threw for 105 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 81 and another score. The McCort defense received some standout performance by Zach Goins (9 tackles) and Devin Nau (1.5 sacks).
